Fraud in healthcare is becoming a larger and larger problem every year. CUP works
closely with State and Federal agencies to detect, correct and prevent fraud.
What is healthcare fraud? Some examples include:
- Billing for services not provided.
- Using someone else’s identity (ID) to obtain benefits or receive payment.
- Billing for illnesses that are more severe than symptoms indicate.
Here are a few helpful tips on how you can help prevent health care fraud:
- Do not give your CUP ID number to anyone except your doctor, clinic, hospital
or other health care provider.
- Do not let anyone borrow your CUP ID or Social Security card.
- Never sign a blank insurance claim form.
- Review your statements from hospitals and doctors to make sure they are accurate.
If you think fraud has taken place, please report it right away so we can double-check
to make sure everything is accurate. You do not have to fear that anyone will find
out about your report. Your report will be kept private. You do not have to give
us your name if you do not want to. You can report fraud through one of the following:
