Tips for Filling Prescriptions:
- Deal Directly with your Pharmacy
CUP has contracts with certain pharmacies. [
View Pharmacy List ]
You must use one of these pharmacies. Call your pharmacy for refills. This is a
service they provide for you. Have your bottle (or box) on hand. If you don't have
this, be sure you know the name of the medication, and if possible, the dose and
directions. When refills have run out, or if your prescription does not specify
refills, your pharmacy will call your provider's office. Your chart will be reviewed
and your health care provider will decide what best meets your health care needs.
This will take time, so call ahead at least two days before you run out of medicine.
-
Anticipate your Medication Needs
- Review all your medications with your current health care provider at each visit.
Make sure you have enough medication to last until your next scheduled appointment.
- Even if your prescription is over a year old, you should call your pharmacy to have
it refilled. The pharmacy will call your health care provider to obtain authorization
for refill.
- For more rapid service, call your pharmacy early in the day. Don't wait until afternoon.
- Refills of routine medications may take up to 3 days to process, if the pharmacy
has to call your health care provider. Please allow adequate time for your refills
to be processed.
- Refills on weekends, holidays or after 4 pm may take longer.
All narcotics, non-narcotic pain relievers and anti-anxiety medications and mood
elevating drugs are regulated by state and federal laws. They must be refilled by
the prescribing health care provider during regular office hours. Some drugs will
require approval from CUP. Your health care provider will need to send this request
to CUP before these drugs can be prescribed to you.
